Park Hotel
According to the Refugee Council of Australia there are 1534 asylum seekers still in detention across Australia. Up until April 2022 there were 9 medievac in the hotel pictured in this photo. This small aspect of the problem only got resolved after years of protesting.
Small groups like the Refugee Action Committee (RAC), Amnesty International and other grass-roots organisations that are concerned about the mistreatment of refugees. Above is one of this organistions called Socialist Alliance are having talks by Refugees and people close to Refugees about the unjust treatment happening to there friends and family.
The Government up until now, has refused to sign any resettlement deals with New Zealand or other countries that would place the well-being of individuals above their political gain. What can’t be ignored is the $471,493 spent each year per individual detained, simply for fleeing a war-torn country. The RAC, socialist Alliance and many more are still fighting for this people to get the respect, safety and plain decency that all people deserve. This issue does not just effect the asylum seekers but everyone in Australia too as this shows what the Australian Government really cares about.
What brought a lot of attention to the Asylum seekers was the medivac Refugees, this people were brought into Australia and were promised medical treatment. After leaving their families to get treated in Australia they ended up not getting any treatment and were forced to stay in hotels with no proper ventilation, no way to open windows and no medical treatment.
The laws that keep Asylum seekers out of our country are Migration Act (1958), Marine Powers Act (2013) and the Australian Border force act (2015). All of this get changed often and contain over a thousand pages of legislation according to Max Costello a lawyer for RAC. These changes make it extremely hard for volunteer lawyers like Max to keep up.
